Fat Loss... How do I make this happen?

Alex Frekey here, Co-Owner of Performance Supplements and also Biochem Hero! (Bachelors of Science in Biochemistry) Let’s just all agree that no one likes fat or to hold extra fat, at least I don’t know many people who do, especially if you are trying to get in shape.


How many people have stubborn fat around your midsection that just wont seem to go away?


How many videos do you see on social media about new cool hacks to get rid of that stubborn belly fat?


How about the latest juice cleanse recipe that “targets” belly fat?


Fat loss miracle supplements?


Fat loss teas? (Dear lord why??!)


Listen I can go on with TONS more questions to ask you all but you get my point, at least I hope you can see where I’m going..


Fat loss can be tricky or confusing because the best way to create this is to BUILD MUSCLE TISSUE. “But wait Alex I’m trying to lose not gain..” That is always the response we get when discussing this topic with people. Yes there is a way to lose body fat without building muscle, usually that’s called starvation to put it plain and simple because you will lose muscle in that process. As we age we DO NOT want to lose muscle tissue by any means. Muscle is a vital part of our body and we need it more and more as we get older (see previous article). The ultimate state every person should want to be in is building lean muscle tissue and losing body fat. Building muscle creates a thermogenic effect in the body and fat can and will be used as energy along the way but let’s get into HOW we do this.


What you want to do is actually quite simple in the grand scheme of things. You want to start by putting yourself in a calorie deficit by 200 increasing to 500 calories and stay there for an extended period of time but eating a sufficient amount of protein (roughly: .7-1.5 grams per pound of your goal weight). On top of this weight training and cardio are going to be the activities you want to combined at least 3 (minimum) to 5 days per week. Now if you are a beginner just starting out by walking every day will do the trick to get you going. The more you move and better you eat is the goal for all beginners. Without going into intense detail that will just make your head spin, just sticking to this will be the best thing you could do overall. There is so much misinformation online from Instagram Fitness “GURUS” that most often forget the basics of how it’s actually accomplished.
